قالت مفوضية الانتخابات العراقية، الاثنين، إن الانتخابات العامة في البلاد ستجري في 21 يناير/كانون الثاني، بعدما كان من المقرر إجراؤها في 16 من الشهر نفسه.

ونقلت وسائل إعلام محلية ووكالات أنباء عن رئيس المفوضية فرج الحيدري قوله إن الانتخابات ستجري في الموعد الجديد لكن بعد تصديق المجلس الرئاسي الذي يضم الرئيس جلال طالباني واثنين من نوابه.

وجاء تأجيل الانتخابات بسبب التأخر في إقرار قانون الانتخابات، الذي صادق عليه مجلس النواب العراقي الأحد، بعد خلافات عميقة حول الطريقة التي يتوجب من خلالها إجراء التصويت في مدينة كركوك الشمالية.
Iraq's election commission said on Monday that general elections in the country will be held in January 21, after it was scheduled to take place in 16 of the same month.

Was quoted by local media and news agencies of the Commission President Faraj al-Haidari said that the elections will be held on the new date but only after ratification by the Presidential Council, which includes President Jalal Talabani and his two deputies.

The postponement of the elections because of delays in the adoption of the electoral law, approved by the Iraqi Council of Representatives Sunday, after deep differences about the way it should from which to conduct a vote in the northern city of Kirkuk
